Philosophy
The young toddler program provides care for children 12 - 26 months. The objective' of the program is to provide a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment to encourage your child's physical and emotional development. By incorporating language skills, gross motor skills and music your child will begin the transition from infant room to the older toddler room. Self help skills will be encouraged along with socialization skills.
Bottles and Pacifiers
During this transitional stage, with your assistance at home, we will phase out bottles and pacifier since they aren't allowed in the older toddler room.
Story Time
Sturdy cardboard books are available for the staff to read to your child.
Nap Time
You will need to provide your own port a-crib for use in the young toddler room. Several weeks before your child is scheduled to move to the older toddler room, we will start putting your child down for a nap on a mat. You may bring in your own mat or purchase one from Shining Stars. We will let you know in advance.
Toys
Please do not bring toys from home, unless your child has something to sleep with, then the toy will remain in their crib. Any other toy will be sent home.
Personal Space
Each child will be provided with a space to hang coats, store extra clothes and mat, and receive and store mail.
Food
During this stage we will begin to acquaint your child with table food that the center provides or you may bring food from home. All the children will be encouraged to drink from their own cup. Snack will be provided in the morning and afternoon.
Needed Items
Please provide the following items for your child's use. Please make sure all belongings are clearly labeled with their name.
Bib
"Sippy" cup
6 (six) disposable diapers
Complete change of clothes with name, appropriate for the season.
Crib and crib sheet, until time for mat, then king size pillow case.
*Note: There will be $1.00 charge for each diaper we supply.
Outside Play
Children will be taken out daily (weather permitting) when the temperature is above 40 degrees. please provide appropriate clothing.
Diaper Bags
Please do not leave any medication (prescription or over the counter) in the diaper bags. All medicines must be kept in an area away from the children. This includes diaper ointments. Medicine must be logged in daily for the duration of time your child is on it.
