Basic Curriculum Outline

During our school year many different concepts will be explored.  Below is a basic curriculum outline for your convenience, so you will know when certain skills are introduced.  Many of these skills are also interwoven throughout the entire time.  Language development, listening, fine and grow motor skills will be stressed constantly.

September – Language development, social interaction (sharing, class rules and manners), colors (red, green, yellow, blue & purple) and name recognition (auditory).

October – Colors (orange, brown, black, white).  Shapes (circle, triangle, rectangle & square).  Name recognition (visual) and name printing.

November – Shapes (heart, diamond, star, oval).  Numbers (1-7) and Gross Motor activities.

December – Numbers (8, 9, 10).  Shape and Number Review and Sequence Words and Numbers.

January – Alphabet introduced (one letter a day).  Auditory Perception, Big, Middle, Small concepts.

February – Alphabet, Tactile and Olfactory Perception, Pledge of Allegiance.

March – Alphabet, Visual Perception, Address.

April – Alphabet (may extend for threes).  Readiness Words and Phone Numbers.

May – Readiness Words and Concepts, Body Parts.

June – Left/Right.  Summer Safety and strangers.

Toys

Throughout September we will have “Show and Tell” each day of nursery school.  Please encourage your child to bring a small toy or book to share with the class.  Please put the toy in a brown bag with your child’s name on the bag.  This way it will be a “surprise” when shown.  Absolutely NO toy guns or weapons are allowed to be brought to school.  If your child has a large toy, an especially valuable toy or a collection of a toy they would like to share; please check with Mrs. Morgan first.

Beginning in October we will have “Show and Tell” only on Monday.  Tuesday/Thursday classes will continue with boys “Show and Tell” on Tuesday, girls on Thursdays.

NEWSLETTER

A monthly newsletter will be sent home with the children to help keep you informed about special parties and programs, information about the coming month and dates to remember.

SONG SHEETS

Each month a list of songs and/or fingerplays will be sent home so that you will also know the words to our songs.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent conferences are scheduled for February.  The four-year-old classes will receive the priority appointment times to allow these parents sufficient time to make important decisions regarding kindergarten placement.  When all conferences with parents of the four year olds are complete, we will have conferences for parents of our three year olds.

We feel conferences are an important part of parent/teacher communication and help us work together for the benefit of the child.

LITTLE STARS SCHEDULE

Little Stars Nursery School will be open according to the Crestwood School District Calendar.

There will be 2 sessions daily.  The morning session will run from 8:45 AM (Group 1) to 11:15 AM and 9:00 AM (Group II) to 11:30 AM.  The afternoon session will run from 12:00 PM (Group 1) to 2:25 and 12:05 PM (Group II) to 2:30 PM.

REGARDING EARLY DISMISSAL AT CRESTWOOD

Little Stars Nursery School does remain opened on days that Crestwood School District has early dismissals.  You are certainly welcome to come pick your child up at anytime during our class hours up to our regular 2:30 PM dismissal.  We know many of you have other children and need to work around their bus schedule.

As always, please check the school closings on your local TV station.  If we are closed, we will be listed as “Little Stars-Mountaintop."  Watch channel #22 & #28.
